18-party’s nationwide hartal observed

The dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal, called by the 18-party alliance, was observed on Thursday amid stray incidents.

The alliance observed the daylong shutdown in protest against police attack on their leaders and activists during the Wednesday’s nationwide protest.

At least 23 cocktails were exploded in Dholaipar, Dania and Rajarbag areas of the city during the hartal hours.

Six vehicles were vandalized in city’s Mirpur, Jatrabari, Matuail, and Khilgaon areas.

Besides, hartal supporters vandalized some 49 vehicles and torched two others in different parts of the country during the nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Thursday.

At least 50 people were injured in separate incidents during the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal.

Law enforcers arrested more than 40 people from different parts of the country during hartal hours.

Police picked up four female MPs of BNP in front of their Nayapaltan party office around 10:30am.

Earlier on Wednesday, over 20 BNP leaders and activists were injured as police opened fire on them in city’s Nayapaltan area.

Later, Acting Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Jamaat Acting Secretary General Rafiqul Islam separately announced hartal for Thursday.

However, after holding a meeting at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office on Wednesday night, 18-party alliance decided to observe the hartal jointly.

On Tuesday, the opposition BNP observed countrywide dawn-to-dusk shutdown.
