3 patients killed in Dhaka Medical College Hospital fire

Dhaka, Mar 17 — At least three patients were killed in a massive fire that broke out at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College  Hospital on Wednesday morning. Duty officer of Fire Service and Control Room, Quamrul Islam, said the fire started on the 2nd floor ICU of the 10-story DMCH building around 8.10 am and soon spread to other portions.
Five firefighting units were pressed into service and the blaze was contained around 9 am, the officer said.
The three patients died while they were being shifted to another room from the ICU, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Fortunately, other patients were safely evacuated from the ICU. However, the identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
