3 power plant projects okayed: Controversial Chinese company gets work

Jan 9: The government purchase body Wednesday approved the tender proposals for three power plant projects, including one with Barapukuria 250-MW power plant.

The other proposals include 300-400-MW power plant in Ghorashal and 300-MW in Shahji Bazar.
The approval to the proposals came from a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchases with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.
According to a meeting source, Harbin, a controversial Chinese company has been selected to construct the Barapukuria power plant.
Harbin had triggered a lot of controversy during the last BNP-led government by setting up a low-quality power plant in Tongi.
Regarding the issue, Muhith said, “Although there was a controversy, their project has been considered as the best of its kind in the country by the power board.”banglanews24.com
