7 killed in Manikganj road accident

Seven people including six women were killed and seven others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus and a human-hauler collided on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway near Ghior upazila of Manikganj on Saturday.

A Sub-Inspector of the Ghior Police Station said five passengers of the human-hauler died on the spot of accident, which occurred at around 12pm. The other two died after being rushed to hospital, he added.

The deceased were identified as Monowara Begum, 55, Mohon Mia, 52, Jahura Begum, 65, Jahana Begum, 58, Nurjanan Begum, 45, Shahton Begum, 48, and Rokeya Begum, 35.

“All of them hail from Malikganj’s Kaliakoir village of Singair upazila,” the police official added.

He added the injured are being treated at the Manikganj Sadar Hospital. “Three of the injured have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.”

An SI of the Barangail camp of the Highway Police, Iqbal Bahar, said the driver of the Sohowardi Paribahan bus fled after abandoning the bus four kilometres away from the spot.

“We have seized the bus and preparing to file a case over the accident,” he added. Bdnews24.com
