Akbar Ali suggests formula for power transfer

Former Advisor to the caretaker government Akbar Ali Khan on Saturday recommended four formulas for handing over the power peacefully.

The former cabinet secretary came up with the recommendations while addressing a seminar on ‘Hand over Power: Option for Bangladesh’ organized by Center for Sustainable Development (CFSD) at CIRDAP auditorium in city.

In his first recommendation, Akbar Ali suggested taking direction or advice from the Supreme Court though President if the government wants to restore caretaker government system to the constitution.

In second recommendation, he asked to select ten members from the parliament, five including Prime Minister from ruling party and five from opposition. The ruling party will select members of opposition and vice versa.

In third recommendation, the former advisor said the main two political parties will give a list of 20 people from two parties equally.

Later, the parliament would select 10 members from them and will also select the chief of the caretaker government.

The fourth and final recommendation was about mass vote on the system demanded by opposition. But, it needs some amendment of the law, he added.

The seminar was addressed, among others, by CFSD president ambassador M Anwar Hossain, Dr Borhan Uddin Khan and Dilara Chowdhury.
