A case was filed against the chairman of Amar Desh Publication Mahmuda Begum and publisher of the daily Sangram Abul Asad on Saturday night for ‘illegally’ printing Amar Desh copies at Sangram’s Al-Falah Printing Press.Executive magistrate Nasrin Sultana filed the case. Hours after the filing of the case, plainclothes police seized 5,000 copies of the Daily Amar Desh from the Al-Falah Printing Press of the daily Sangram, the mouthpiece of Jamaat-e-Islami, in the city’s Maghbazar area.
A DB team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) raided the Printing Press around 11pm on Saturday while the copies of the daily Amar Desh were being printed at the press.
The team also detained 19 Amar Desh employees during the raid.
Police said the daily’s copies were being printed at Al-Falah Printing Press illegally, an allegation turned down by the Amar Desh authorities.
They said they earlier informed the deputy commissioner of Dhaka that they will print the daily’s copies in another press as their press has been sealed off by the police.
Meanwhile, the 19 people, arrested during the raid on Saturday night, were shown arrested in the case Sunday.
Earlier, police sealed off the Amar Desh’s printing press in the city’s Tejgaon area on Thursday night, hours after its acting editor Mahmudur Rahman was taken on a 13-day police remand following his arrest in three cases.
