Bangla-India SME seminar in city today

A daylong seminar on ‘Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises’ (MSME) will be held at the CIRDAP auditorium here Saturday seeking to build a strong tie between the two friendly countries in the specialised sector.

Bangladesh Bank and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) in association with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka are organising the first such seminar.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman will inaugurate the seminar as the chief guest while Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran will be the special guest. IBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmad will preside over the inaugural session.

Chairman and Managing Director of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) Sushil Muhnot, Chairman cum Managing Director of National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) of India Dr HP Kumar, and Chairman, Integrated Association of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises of India (IAM SME of India) Rajiv Chawla will address the session, which will be followed by specialised presentations.

Bangladesh Bank general manager on SME Affairs Sukomol Singh Chowdhury and First Secretary (Economic and Projects) at the Indian High Commission R Masakui will be present.

Distinguished representatives from organisations and institutions of MSME sector of Bangladesh will take part in the seminar. Discussions and interactive business sessions will take place in the afternoon.

The focus of the seminar is to explore opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in the MSME sector.

This will be first seminar of its kind aimed at bringing together the premier institutions from India and Bangladesh in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector.

It is expected to open a new avenue of engagement between the entrepreneurs and businesses of Bangladesh and India.

Deputy High Commissioner of India Sandeep Chakravorty has said that a small intervention in terms of technology and capital can give a big boost to productivity and profitability of the SME sector.  UNB
