Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger once termed Bangladesh “bottomless basket” around three decades ago.
Terming the remark by Kissinger, he criticized his ‘insulting terming’ on Bangladesh.
The US diplomat came up with the observation while addressing a workshop on food security organized by USAID in a city hotel.
He said many ago a famous person termed Bangladesh as a “bottomless basket” but if the remark is true, why the basket has been fulfilled with crops?
This US envoy also said he believes that Bangladesh will be reach in food sufficiency in the next one decade.
Bangladesh has become a ‘basket of food’ by dint of hard working of millions of farmers in the country, he observed.
He added Bangladesh actually is developing through food revolution and also to win the revolution.
The workshop was also addressed, among others, by Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzak.banglnews24.com
