Barguna Rifat murder accused Rifat Farazi on 7-day remand

Dhaka, July 03 – A Barguna Court on Wednesday granted seven-day remand to Rifat Faraji, a suspect in connection with Rifat Sharif Murder case.
Police arrested Rifat Farazi at 2.30 am on Wednesday, just a day after the prime accused, Sabbir Ahmed Nayan alias Nayan Bond, was killed in a reported gunfight with the law enforcement agency.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sirajul Islam Gazi granted the remand, while Police produced him before the court and seeking ten day remans for further interrogation. The court granted seven day remand. Humayan Kabir, Investigation officer (IO) of the case confirmed about it.
Earlier, the day at a press briefing Shafiqul Islam, Barisal Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police said Rifat Faraji was arrested at Barguna Sadar at early Wednesday.
He, however, refused to disclose the details of the arrest for the sake of investigation. During the press briefing, Rifat was also produced before the media.
It was known that Rifat Farazi, a close accomplice of Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, allegedly took part in the hacking of Rifat Sharif.
On June 26, a group of miscreants hacked Rifat Sharif, 22, in broad daylight in front of the Barguna Government College in the district town.
Footage shows that attackers attacked with sharp weapons in front of his wife. He was pronounced dead at Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSMCH) later.
Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif, the father of Rifat, filed the murder case with the police station accusing 12 persons named Sabbir Ahmed alies Nayan Bond, 25, Md Rifat Farazi, 23, Md. Rishan Farazi, 20, Chandan, 21, Md. Musa, Md. Rabbi Akan, 19, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, 19, Raihan, 19, Md Hasan, 19 Rifat, 20, Oli, 22, Tiktok Hridoy, 21 ana five and six unidentified persons.
The police have, to date, arrested 10 suspects over the killing. Five of them are among the 12 people named in a case filed with the Sadar police station. The five others were taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the murder. – Staff Reporter
