BGB recover Tk 106 cr smuggled goods

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has so far recovered various smuggled goods worth about Tk 106 crore from across the country in the first three months of the current year.BGB headquarters sources said 398 people were arrested by the BGB men in connection with the recovery of the smuggled goods during the period – January 1-March 31.
Besides, the paramilitary BGB also seized 139,785 bottles of Indian contraband phensidyle; 45,867 bottles of foreign liquor; 1,213 kg of country made liquour; 2,451 cans of beer; 1,282 kg of ‘ganja’ (hemp); and 5.312 kg of heroin (brown sugar) during the three month period.
A total of 5,970 cases have been filed with different police stations across the country in connection with the recovery of smuggled goods and illegal narcotics items.
Among the smuggled goods, different items worth about Tk 101 crore were seized while being smuggled into the country and goods worth about Tk4.92 crore while being smuggled out of the country.
Most of the smuggled goods and illegal narcotics items were seized from the frontiers along Bangladesh-India border.
The BGB members also rescued 186 women and 55 children when they were being trafficked out of the country, especially to neighboring India during the period. The law enforcers arrested six alleged traffickers during the time. UNB
