BGMEA worried over Ctg power crisis

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Tuesday voiced grave concern over the prevailing power crisis in the region of Chittagong.“The power shortfall has increased to 4 to 5 hours per day in the region. As a result, the production cost has jumped to double as the factories have to continue production with diesel-run generators,” it said in a statement.
The factory owners were compelled to hike the prices of their products as overhead cost has marked an increase. “But, the foreign buyers aren’t ready to pay additional prices.”
“If the products could be made ready in due time for lack of power, the factory owners will have to ship those by air, incurring huge loses to them,” the statement added. UNB
