Biman to increase fare on 7 routes

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is likely to increase ticket fare in seven routes to recover national flag carrier from huge loss.Newly appointed Biman Managing Director & CEO Kevin Steele took the decision very recent.

Sources in Biman said fare would be increased by 10 percent in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, London, Jeddah, Riyadh, Muscat & Abu Dhabi routes very soon.

According to Kevin, Biman is doing well in these routes. Moreover, there is huge demand of Biman ticket in these routes.

A large number of Bangladeshi manpower flies through Biman flight in those routes. Considering all these things Kevin decided to increase fare.

Board of Directors of Biman finalized Kevin’s appointment on 14 February to make the national flag carrier a profitable one.

Biman incurred loss Tk 605.95 crore in last fiscal year while Previous fiscal year national flag carriers incurred loss Tk 199 crore. The amount of losses is increasing day by day.

In this circumstances Kevin decided to increase ticket fare of Biman. Kevin said it would be possible to make Biman a profitable institute. He is working on it.

After joining on March 18, Kevin started monitoring closely the activities of different departments especially the marketing section.

Most of the airlines from Dhaka charge more fare than Biman. Comparing those airlines Biman fare is very low, Kevin opined.

Kevin has over 25 years experience in aviation sector.

Now Biman operates flight in 16 routes. Of them Delhi, Hong Kong and Karachi route have been closed.banglanews24.com
