Citizen committee to protect rail stations: Minister

Railways Minister Mujibul Haque on Tuesday said citizen committee will be formed in all rail stations across the country aiming to protect properties of railway from subversive activities.“Local people, security personnel and representatives from administration will be incorporated in the national committee,” he told a function at Rail Bhaban in the capital.
The Railway Ministry organised the function to provide financial assistance to the railway staff who received injuries while running trains amid hartal and political violence. Forty railway staff received the financial assistance.
Addressing the function, Mujibul Haque said railway properties worth crores of taka were damaged due to recent political violence and sabotage acts. He said all should come forward to protect the national resources. The Railway Minister announced that two armed security personnel will be kept in each running trains to check sabotage.
He said two DEMU-trains will be introduced on Dhaka-Narayanganj-Dhaka route from April 24. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the trains.” Mujibul Haque said the eight DEMU-trains have already been brought from China with government’s own fund and remaining 12 trains will be added to the railway soon.
