Bangladesh is shivering under the first cold wave this winter.

Abul Kalam Mallik of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told bdnews24.com that a mild cold wave is prevaling over Ishwardi, Jessore and Chuadanga districts on Saturday. Temperature over a large area of Rajshahi Division has dropped sharply, he said.

The official said this cold wave might extend to Faridpur and Barisal. “Such weather may continue for couple of more days,” Mallik added.

The lowest temperature recorded in Ishwardi on Saturday was 9.2 degrees celsius.

The Met office forecast dry weather with moderate to heavy fog throughout large parts of the country from night to noon. Heavy fog will descend over the river basins, the forecast indicated.

Mallik said the temperature will further drop at night and the lowest temperature could go down to 8 degrees Celsius.

The weather forecast for this month said one or two mild (ranging from 8 to 10 degrees Celsius) or moderate (6 to 8 degrees Celsius) cold waves might hit the country’s north, north-eastern and middle regions by the end of December.

The forecast also said a low-pressure might develop over the Bay of Bengal during this month.
