Cultural deal with US sought

Bangladesh has sought US support to sign a deal on cultural exchange as there is no such agreement between the two countries to strengthen cultural ties.
“Bangladesh has agreements with 39 countries on cultural exchange…but there’s no such deal with the USA,” said Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad during a meeting with US Ambassador Dan W Mozena at his Secretariat office on Tuesday.
Azad sought support to have a deal on cultural exchange between the two countries.
He also said the 100-year celebration of winning Nobel Prize by Biswa Kabi (world poet) Rabindranath Tagore will be held in 2013 and requested the US envoy to take steps so that Dhaka-Washington can jointly celebrate it.
The Cultural Minister laid emphasis on more training and scholarship programmes for Bangladesh.
In response, the US envoy assured the minister of all support,a PID handout said.
Minister and US envoy also talked on various bilateral issues. The minister sought continuous support from the USA in strengthening democracy, ensuring food security, infrastructural development, women empowerment and energy sector’s development.
