Dhaka high-rise fire: One owner secures bail

Dhaka, April 11 – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday granted bail to Tasvirul Islam, one of the owners of FR Tower in the case filed over the devastating fire that ripped through 22-storied FR Tower at Banani in the capital, killing 26 and leaving some 70 people injured on March 28.
Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed on behalf of Tasvir on Thursday afternoon. Former Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Ehsanul Haque Samaji moved the bail petition.
On March 31, the court placed SMHI Faruque, the landowner of FR Tower of Banani, and Tasvirul Islam, one of the owners of the high-rise building, on a seven-day remand each in the case filed over the March 28 fire incident.
Detective police arrested Faruque and Tasvir on the day after filing the case. At least 26 persons were killed and many others injured in the inferno that broke out in the high-rise building on March 28. – Special Correspondent
