Directors’ recruitment in state-run banks: Process not transparent: CPD

Distinguished Fellow of Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) economist Debapriya Bhattacharya termed the process of directors’ appointment to state-run banks ‘not transparent’.

“The director-recruitment is not transparent, rather they are being recruited basically upon political decision, he added.

Debapriya Bhattacharya said, “It is not clear at all who is recruiting them, Finance Ministry or Prime Minister’s office. As a result incompetent persons are being recruited as directors of the banks.”

The CPD Fellow made three points recommendation including giving the power to recruit directors to Bangladesh Bank.

He made the recommendation in press conference at CPD office in city’s Dhanmondi Saturday.

Over Padma Bridge project, he added, “We always said that we should not look for alternatives for financing the project, better to comprise with World Bank.”

He also said that the investment was 19.5 percent of GDP in 2011, but it reduced to 19.1 percent due to political instability.banglanews24.com
