Ex-Jamaat MP Mojibur arrested

Rapid Action Battalion have detained Assistant Secretary General Mojibur Rahman on charges of ‘conspiring against the government’.

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General from Khulna’s Zero Point area on Sunday,” RAB’s intelligence wing chief Ziaul Ahsan told bdnews24.com.

He alleged the former Rajshahi MP was visiting Khulna to organise his party activists.

Rahman had threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a Nov 28 rally in Dhaka. President of the Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, AB Siddiqui, filed a case with Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Dec 3.

The court had ordered Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station to probe the matter and take actions.

Rahman is also the chief of Jamaat’s workers’ front, Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation.

The Jamaat top brass is currently standing trial at the two International Crimes Tribunals for allegedly committing crimes against humanity during the nation’s War of Independence in 1971.

The party’s student front, Islami Chhatra Shibir, has been on the streets for long demanding release of the party stalwarts. In their desperate bid, they had launched violent attacks on police across Bangladesh and even set one policeman on fire. They allegedly attacked the motorcade of Law Minister Shafique Ahmed in Karwan Bazar.

The law enforcers have detained several Jammat leaders over the past weeks for allegedly conspiring against the country.
