Five on remand in gang-rape case

Tangail – A Tangail court on Wednesday placed four accused on a three-day remand and another one on one-day remand for police interrogation for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape of a local schoolgirl.Judge Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque, the Senior Judicial Magistrate of Tangail (‘Kha’ region) passed the order after the police produced the accused before her with a request for seven day remand for each.
Officer-in-charge of the Madhupur Police Station Majibar Rahman told journalists that the court remanded Shahjahan Ali, Nuruzzaman Geda, Moniruzzaman Moni and Harunur Rashid for three days each while the female accused Bithi Akhter Eva, who allegedly helped the men gang-rape the girl, was given one day remand.
It was alleged that Bithi lured the 14-year-old schoolgirl to a solitary house in Madhupur forest and let the four men gang-rape her for three consecutive days.
The victim, on treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), is suffering from serious mental trauma and doctors say she is fighting for her life.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the five accused early on Monday.
Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir has already promised exemplary punishment for the accused in this case..
