Fuel prices hike: Left parties’ hartal on Jan 16

Jan 8: The left-leaning parties of the country called a countrywide half-day hartal on January 16 in protest against the latest fuel price hike.

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) and Ganatantrik Bam Morcha called the hartal to protest the government decision.
The two left-leaning parties will make the formal announcement of the hartal from a sit-in to be held at 11:00am on Wednesday in front of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission in the capital.
The leaders of CPB and BSD told banglanews on Tuesday that they would observe the nationwide shutdown if fuel prices are not reduced by tonight.
Junaid Saki, coordinator of Ganatantrik Bam Morcha, an alliance of some left-leaning parties, said they would hold a press conference at their party off 11:00am in the capital to formally declare the nationwide shutdown. Banglanews24.com
