Gonoforum extends support to LDA’s hartal

Dhaka, July 4 – Gonoforum on Thursday extended its support to the Left Democratic Alliance’s (LDA’s) half-day hartal to be enforced across the country on July 7 protesting the gas tariff hike.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s presidium members, said a press release.
Besides, the party announced some action programmes to register its protest against the gas price hike.
As part of the programmes, Gonoforum will distribute leaflets for a week from Saturday and will take out a protest rally at 11 am on Tuesday from in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
Besides, the party’s all district units will hold rallies and bring out processions the same day to force the government to revoke gas tariff hike decision.
On Sunday, the government announced to raise the average gas price by 32.8 percent for the retail consumers in the country effective Monday.
As per the new price hike, the household consumers having single burner will have to pay Tk925 a month instead of the existing Tk750 while the double burner users will have to pay Tk975 instead of the existing Tk 800.
Protesting the government’s decision, the LDA on Monday announced to enforce a half-day hartal across the country on July 7.
Left Democratic Alliance, a coalition of eight left-leaning political parties, comprises Communist Party of Bangladesh, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, Ganasamhati Andolan and Ganatantrik Biplobi Party. – UNB
