Govt pushing country towards civil war: BNP

The main opposition BNP on Sunday alleged that the government is pushing the country towards a civil war-like situation by unleashing violence.“The government has unleashed a reign of terror by carrying out mass killing across the country. They’re creating a civil war-like situation through various hoodwinks to hush up its failures,“ BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told a discussion.
He called upon the freedom fighters to join the BNP-led 18-party’s one-point oust-government movement to save the country from this sordid state.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijuddher Prajanma organised the programme at the National Press Club marking the Independence Day.
Mentioning that the country is passing through a critical time, Fakhrul said the government triggers violence and puts the blame on BNP for that. “We want to clearly state that BNP doesn’t believe in violence. The government has unleashed mayhem across the country by killing people indiscriminately and making opposition leaders and activists disappeared,” the BNP leader said.
Fakhrul alleged that the ruling party leaders only talks about dialogue but they do not actually want to have a solution to the ongoing political crisis through discussions.
“We’re always in favour of dialogue. Our leader (Khaleda Zia) has repeatedly called for dialogue. But the AL-led government doesn’t want the talks. Their ministers have blocked the way for talks by calling the country’s biggest political party BNP a terrorist party,” he said.
The BNP spokesperson said the country’s green fields now have got red with the blood of common people due to the government’s misrule and repressive acts.
He called upon all to wage an irresistible movement to ensure the fall of this regime. UNB
