Hasina afraid of mass protest: BNP

BNP standing committee member MK Anwar on Friday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is afraid of the mass protest against the government’s misrule. He said, “The struggle for realising people’s rights has begun. The protest against the government’s misrule has spread across the country. Panicked by this protest, Prime Minister (Hasina) has asked the Awami League men to remain alert against repetition of Fatikchhari like incidents.”
The BNP leader made the remarks while addressing a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club, jointly organised by Mohammadpur, Adabar and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar thana units of BNP, to press home the demand for unconditional release of the party’s arrested leaders and activists.
MK Anwar urged the government to restore the caretaker government system to avert any incidents like Fatikchhari. “If the people want, you (Hasina) will again come to power, but don’t steal the right of people by force,” he said.
At a separate programme at the same venue earlier in the day, another BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan alleged that Hasina-led government has resorted to a new game after their failure in all sectors, using the women as political tool in a bid to cling to power forever.
“This is very unfortunate,” he said while addressing a sit-in programme oranised by Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Andolon.
The BNP stalwart also said the present political stalemate would be resolved “only in three minutes if the government will restore the caretaker government system.” UNB
