Hefajat’s Sylhet grand rally held

Hefajat-e-Islam on Saturday held its divisional grand rally in the City Point here to drum up support in favour of its 13-point demand including punishment to ‘atheist bloggers’.Some of Hefajat demands include restoring the phrase ‘complete faith and trust in the almighty Allah’ in the constitution and repealing all the laws contrary to the holy Quran and Sunnah, enacting a law in parliament keeping a provision of the maximum punishment to prevent defaming Allah, Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Islam and smear campaigns against Muslims and officially declaring Qadianis (Ahmadiyyas) as non-Muslims.
Maulana Junaid Babunagri, secretary general of the organisation, addressed as the chief guest at the rally with district unit Hefajat president Muhibbul Haque Gachbari in the chair. Local Hefajat leaders also addressed the rally. Over one lakh Hefajat activists from the division attended the rally, which began at 2pm and ended at 5:30pm.
The speakers urged the government to meet their demands. They also demanded the release of Daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman immediately.
The grand rally was held today as part of the programmes announced from post-long march rally of the organization held in the capital on April 6.
