Chattogram, Apr 12 : Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday arrested Azizul Haque Islamabadi, organizing secretry of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, from Hathazari of Chattogram.DB Joint Commissioner Md Mahbub Alam said Azizul Haque has been brought to Dhaka and shown arrested in a case filed over the violence at Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013.
A Dhaka court placed Azizul Haque on a seven-day remand after he was produced before it in the afternoon, he said.
Meanwhile, Hefazat leaders and his family members claimed that Azizul remained missing since Sunday night.
Hefazat Ameer Allama Junaid Babunagari in a press statement expressed deep concern over the arrest and demanded his safe return.
“Arresting and suing innocent people like this won’t be tolerated,” he said.
Besides, Hefazat’s assistant finance secretary Mufti Ilias Hamidi, who was also arrested from Madanpur in Narayanganj, must be released as well, Babunagari said adding “Hefazat-e-Islam wants peace, but it will give befitting reply along with people if the repression continues,” reports UNB.
