Hefazate Islam regrets attack on media people

DHAKA: Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh (HIB) on Sunday apologised for the
attacks on media people particularly on Nadia Sharmin, crime reporter
of Ekushey Television (ETV) and cameraman of Diganta Television during
its Saturday’s long march.“We believe that ruling party terrorists in the guise of Hefazat
activists might have carried out the attack on ETV journalist to pour
negative thoughts on us. Even if our activists had carried out the
attack we apologise for that,” said Maulana Noor Hossain Kashemi, the
Dhaka city convenor of HIB, while addressing a press conference at
Lalbagh Shahi Mosque Complex.
The Hefazat leader appealed to all concerns specially the transport
owners not to ply any mode of transports including buses, trains and
launches during the nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal of HIB on Monday.
He said they would enforce the hartal peacefully to press home their
13-point demands including enacting of a blasphemy law providing death
sentence to the atheists and murtads and to carryout the movement for
the sake of faith of Muslims and Islam.
The Hefazat leader called upon the countrymen particualry the faithful
Muslims to remain on the street with prayer mad (jainamaza) and tasbih
and observe the hartal peacefully.
Maulana Kashemi, who is also nayebe ameer of HIB, strongly condemned
and protested the attacks on the long march participants on their way
to homes from Motojheel and setting fire in a madrasah in Faridpur
leaving many HIB activists injured.
He claimed that people of Shahbagh Jagoron Macha had carried out
attack on HIB activists at Shahbagh while they were returning homes
and demanded the arrest of the attackers immediately..
He also condemned harassing HIB leaders and activists in the name of
searching different mosques and madrasahs.
The Hefazat leader demanded the release of arrested Hefzat leaders and
activists and withdrawal of false cases against them.
Asked why the HIB is not demanding for holding the trial of war
criminals, he said id didn’t take any political issue including the
trials of war criminals since it is a non-political organisation.
About the Jagoron Mancha’s announcement to resist their hartal, he
said it is the responsibility of the government to maintain law and
order.

Maulana Abdur Rab Yusufi, Mufti Faizullah, Maulana Abdul Hamid,
Maulana Mostafa Azad and Maulana Jafrullah Khan, Maulana Mahmudul
Haque, Maulana Manjurul Islam, Maulana Mojibur Rahman Peshwari,
Maulana Abdul Kaleque, Maulana Abul Hasnat Amini and Maulana
Obaidullah Faruque, among others, were present at the press
conference.
