Herbarium inaugurated at BAU

Mymensingh, April 5 – A Herbarium (collection of dry plant samples) was inaugurated at botanical garden of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Thursday.Herbarium was inaugurated by BAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar organized by university botanical garden.
Former Prof Dr Mostafizur Rahman, botanical garden curator Dr AKM Golam Sarwar attended the program while Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain presided over it.
Around 300 plant species are collected from different areas of Bangladesh including hilly areas in the herbarium but there are many unidentified species which have not been identified yet, said PhD student Rishad Abdullah.
Besides collecting living plants, preservation of dead plants is also important for easy research purposes, said Former Prof Dr Mostafizur Rahman.
BAU botanical garden Herbarium is the fifth in the country. – BAU Correspondent
