HSC, equivalent exams begin today

Amid political uncertainty and more hartals likely ahead, the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations begin on Monday across the country.Some 10,12,581 candidates are expected to participate in the examinations, officials at the Education Ministry said.
A total of 10,12,581 examinees, including 8,23,241 under general education board, 88,779 under madrasah education board, 95,956 under technical education and 4,605 under DIBS (Diploma in Business Studies), will sit for the HSC and the equivalent examinations.
Voicing concern over the ongoing political unrest, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told UNB that he requests all the political parties not to enforce any harsh programme like hartal during the examination.
This year a total of 10,12,581 candidates, including 4,76,919 female candidates, are appearing in the examinations from 7,803 educational institutions. The total number of examination centers is 2288 this year.
Besides, examinations will held in five overseas centers in Doha, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Riyadh and Tripoli, where 165 students will take part in the examinations.
This year examinations on seven subjects, including Bangla 1st paper, will be held under creative method, Nahid added.
The results will be published within 60 days of completion of the examinations. UNB
