ICT asks Jamaatmen to explain in another 5 days

International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on Tuesday fixed March 3 for three Jamaat leaders to explain their comment on a sub-judice matter.

The tribunal extended five days more for them and said if they fail to give their explanation within the stipulated time, a legal action would be taken against them.

Three-member ICT led by Chairman Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Tuesday.

Three Jamaat leaders are Acting Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan, central executive member Hamidur Rahman Azad MP, and Dhaka City Assistant Secretary General M Selim Uddin.

The leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami were scheduled to appear at the tribunal in the day but they did not appear.

Former deputy attorney general Advocate Golam Muhammad Chowdhury Alal and Advocate Shahadat Hossain sought seven more days on behalf of the leaders to tribunal and the tribunal granted five-day.

On February 7, tribunal issued a show-cause notice to explain why punitive measures should not be taken against them brining court of contempt charge.

In the show-cause notice, the tribunal asked them to appear on February 20 for their controversial remarks.banglanews24.com
