ICT rejects retrial pleas

DHAKA:  The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 Thursday rejected the retrial pleas of Jamaat’s former Ameer Ghulam Azam, Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee detained for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971.The ICT-1 led by ATM Fazle Kabir passed the orders after final hearing on the petitions.
Besides, the tribunals will again hear the arguments of prosecutions and defense in case of Delwar Hossain Sayedee. It fixed January 13-14 for placing prosecution argument and January 15, 16 and 17 for placing defense arguments.
Earlier on December 19, former Jamaat chief Ghulam Azam filed retrial petition consist of 600-page.
Later on December 23, Jamaat leaders Matiur Rahman Nizami and Delwar Hossain Sayedee on Sunday pleaded to International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 for retrial of charges against them.
Chief Jamaat lawyer Barrister Abdur Razzak filed the 214-page petition for Nizami and 600-page for Sayedee for retrial.
