Jamaat greater Ctg strike Sat

The Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in greater Chittagong region for Saturday as the Islamist party was denied a rally in the port city.

Party’s port city unit Publicity Secretary Mohammad Ullah confirmed bdnews24.com about the shutdown call.

The party called the shutdown after the police did not allow it to hold a rally at the city’s Andarkilla on Thursday afternoon in protest against the alleged killing of the activists of its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir during Tuesday’s countrywide daylong shutdown called by the Jamaat itself.

The party also called the lockdown demanding withdrawal of the verdicts passed by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 against two of its party stalwarts for their involvement in war crimes during the Liberation War, and release of all its detained leaders and activists.

Ullah said the shutdown would also be observed simultaneously in Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar and Rangamati districts.bdnews24.com
