Jamaat observes hartal: 3 killed, 30 injured, 100 held

During hartal hours, three people were killed and 30 other injured while over 100 people were detained in different parts of the country, banglanews correspondents report.

A man died and two sustained bullet wounds as police opened fire on Jamaat-Shibir men when they attacked cops in Chouddagram upazila of Comilla district.

While, an elderly man died when pro-hartal activists vandalized an ambulance in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar during.

Besides, a man was killed and two received injuries as a bus overturned in a bid to avert attacks when chased by pickets at Madhya Badda of the capital in the morning.

Hartal supporters exploded four to five cocktails in capital’s Jatrabari area around 6:30am, reports banglanews correspondent while they blasted three cocktails in front of Scout Market in capital’s Nayapaltan area at about 11:15am.

Police held two Shibir men for their alleged involvement in the explosion.

Pickets vandalized three private cars and torched a bus in front of BF Shahin College in city’s Mohakhali area around 6:45am.

Besides, pickets vandalized two vehicles in front of Titumir College during early hours of hartal.

Police picked up seven picketers from the spot.

Jamaat Shibir men also vandalized seven to eight vehicles in Nabisko area around 7:45am.

Police chased them and exploded some sound grenades to disperse the picketers.

Law enforcers held 15 people during the time.

A bus ran over two pedestrians in capital’s Badda area in the morning while being chased by picketers, leaving them critically injured.

They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Huge contingents of RAB, police were seen patrolling at different strategic points of the city to ensure people’s security.

Besides, the government deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in the capital to avert any untoward situation from Sunday night.

Riot car, Water cannon have been kept geared up.

In Rajshahi, police dispersed Jamaat-shibir men while they were trying to block Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in Binodpur area around 7:00am.

Boalia Zone Assistant Commissioner Rokanuzzaman said at least 12 Shibir men were held from different areas of the divisional city from 6:00am.

Chase and counter chase occurred between hartal supporters and cops at Harian in Paba upazila around 9:30am. Besides, pickets torched a truck and vandalized another one in Kharkhari area in the morning.

No causality was reported from the incidents.

In Rangpur, three members of police were wounded in an attack launched by Shibir men in Hazirhat area and Pirghachha in the town on Monday morning.

During the time locals caought two Shibir men and handed over to police.

In Comilla, a Shibir man was killed and seven sustained bullet injuries in a clash between his party men and law enforcers in Amjader Bazar area under Chaudagram upazila around 10:30am.

The condition of two others is critical. Police held five Jamaat-Shibir men from the spot.

Besides, hartal supporters vandalized three vehicles in Chaudagram area of the district around 7:00am.

In Joypurhat, Jamaat-shibir men locked into clash with law enforcers in Polli Bidyut office area of the district town.

Law enforcers used five rounds of tear shells and gas gun to disperse the hartal supporters.

Besides, law enforcers held two Jamaat leaders from the procession.

In Mymensigh, hartal is progressing in the district without any untoward incidents.

Train communications remained normal as usually but no inter-district bus left the district town, banglanews correspondent reports.

The party observed the shutdown protesting the deaths of three activists of Chhatra Shibir during a clash between Jamaat-Shibir men and police in Cox’s Bazar.
