JU VC decides to continue

Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Professor Dr Anwar Hossain has changed his decision to resign from his post as groups of teachers and students requested him to continue.

Prof Dr. Anwar on Wednesday night, hours after his statement to resign, said he has decided to continue his job responding to student’s requests.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, he announced to resign as soon as possible at a press conference in at Senate Hall of the university.

Anwar Hossain said, “A delegation of the teachers association urged me to resign following Tuesday’s unrest. So, I have decided to quit.”

Students of university vandalized residences of vice-chancellor, treasurer and some teachers, minutes after the death of M Malek, a master degree student of statistics, on Tuesday night.

The VC claimed that the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, carried out the vandalism.

The Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (JUTA) delegation later held a press conference at the JU Journalists’ Association office where they claimed that Shibir activists were not involved in the vandalism on the campus.banglanews24.com
