Mawa-Kewrakandi ferries resume

Mawa-Kewrakandi ferry operations resumed on Friday morning after 10 hours of halt due to heavy fog.

BIWTC Mawa terminal Manager Sirajul Haque told bdnews24.com lack of visibility halted ferry services on Thursday midnight, forcing seven loaded ferries to stay put mid-Padma.

“Almost 2,000 passengers were stranded overnight before ferry operations resumed at 11:15am” he said.

According to the official, over 400 vehicles were queuing up at both terminals due to the halt.

Heavy fog has been disrupting ferry operations on key riverine routes across the country since the onset of winter, affecting the economy of the 21 southern districts.
