No Saudi pressure to stop war trial: Dipu

Jan 8: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni Tuesday denied any pressure created by Saudi Arabia on Bangladesh government to stop trial of crimes against humanity committed during liberation war in 1971.She came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after a meeting with visiting Speaker of the Saudi parliament Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Bib Mohammad Al Shikhar at city’s Hotel Sonargaon around 10:00am.
During the meeting, Saudi speaker assured of Bangladesh that their government is not making any interference for stooping ongoing trial of war criminals. They did not create any pressure on Bangladesh to stop the trial, said Dipu in a short press brief.
“She informed Soudi speaker that a vested quarter in Bangladesh is trying to influence Saudi Arabia to stop the trial,” the Foreign minister said.
Dipu said that shrink of Bangladeshi labour market in Saudi Arabia was discussed in the meeting. During the meeting, the Saudi speaker assured Bangladesh that labour market in his country is normal. But the whole issues now brought under a process.
Earlier on Sunday, Speaker of the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia also known as Shura Council Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh arrived here on a three-day official visit.
He is leading a high-level Saudi delegation.
