Opposition for immediate restoration of CG

BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday urged the government to immediately reinstate the non-party caretaker government system with an amendment to the constitution to avert confrontations. “You (govt) don’t delay (in restoring the caretaker government). The more you’ll take time, the greater adverse impacts will be on the country and its economy. The country will simply head towards violence, if the caretaker government (system) isn’t reinstated. If so, the government must shoulder responsibility for that,” he said.
Mosharraf was addressing a protest rally organised by the 18-party alliance in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital. The BNP-led opposition alliance organised the rally to press home its various demands, including release of the top opposition leaders and resignation of the government.
The rally was also meant for protesting the government’s failures and widespread killing of people across the country, and returning all disappeared opposition leaders, including M Ilias Ali, and restoration of the caretaker government system.
BNP leaders MK Anwar, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Rafiqul Islam Miah and others leaders of the alliances addressed the rally held with Dhaka city unit convener of BNP Sadeque Hossain Khoka in the chair. In his address, Khandaker Mosharraf warned the government of tougher agitation if their demand for CG is not met.
Charging the government with trying to confuse people in the name of dialogue, the BNP policymaker said, “On one hand, you’ll torture our leaders keeping them in jail and talk about dialogue on the other… it’s nothing but an attempt to confuse people.”
Urging the government to create an atmosphere for the dialogue, the former minister said the ruling party must meet their all demands to create a congenial atmosphere for discussions.
Blaming the government for trying to perpetuate its power, he said, “They want to stay in power through annihilating the opposition.” He also held the government responsible for creating anarchy in the country and shifting the blame onto the opposition.
Addressing the rally, Sadeque Hossain Khoka called upon people to resist the ruling party cadres as the villagers in Chittagong’s Fatikchhari upazila did. “Every village, upazila must be valiant like Fatikchhari,” he said.
Three people were killed and about 120 others, including cops, injured in the clash involving the activists of Awami League and Jamaat-Shibir-Hefajat and villagers at Kazirhat in Fatikchhari upazila on April 11. Over 100 motorcycles, four mini-trucks, three private cars, a vehicle of Fire Service and a microbus were also torched during the clash. UNB
