Padma Bridge project: WB’s final decision by January

World Bank (WB) country director Allen Goldstein stated that WB would give final decision over funding Padma Bridge project by this January.

She came up with the observation in reply to the query of journalists after attending a workshop at city’s Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel Tuesday.

Over a news report of a newspaper titled “World Bank dissatisfied over Padma Bridge”, Allen Goldstein said that it was own opinion of the newspaper, not of World Bank.

WB has not got the report of expert panel yet and WB would make formal announcement after getting the report, she added.

Besides, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said, “All uncertainty over Padma Bridge will be dispelled within February.”

“We will begin the construction of the bridge by this tenure,” he added.

On July 29, the WB cancelled its $1.2 billion credit for the $2.9 billion Padma Bridge Project saying it had credible evidence of a corruption conspiracy involving Bangladeshi officials, executives of a Canadian firm and some private individuals.banglanews24.com
