Police say quoting gang-member: 11 BD fishermen killed, trawler snatched

A detained Rohingya member on Sunday confessed that a gang of his country-men killed some 11 fishermen at Sonachar sea channel in Barguna district on January 2, police said.

The gang also snatched a trawler from the procession of the fishermen, police said quoting the detainee.

Ukhia Thana Police held the alleged gang member Mahidul Haque, a citizen of Myanmar at around 9:00pm in the day.

Sub Inspector Sayeed Mia, In-charge of Inani Police Outpost, told banglanews that after killing 11 fishermen, a gang of Rohingya snatched their 74-HP trawler and tried to set for Myanmar on January 2 through Sonachar sea channel.

But, their attempt to fleeting with the trawler did not succeed due to technical error to the engine of the trawler, he said.

Later, police held Hamid from the trawler with the held of local people, the SI added.

The confessor would live in Cox’s Bazar city for more than three years.

Police and locals said some 16 fishermen sailed for fishing in two boats at Pathorhgata in Borguna on January 1.

There were 5 Rohingyas in the group, they added.

But, o the way to fishing, the Rohingyas killed the Bangladeshi fishermen, dropped their bodies into the sea and attempted to flee with the costly trawler, they said.

Police said the detainee could name 8 fishermen.

They were Belal, 18, Syed Alam Majhi, 60, Sohag, 18, Jafor, 35, Abbas, 20, Babul, 42, Jasim, 21.

The victims were residents of Pathorghata and Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar, police added quoting the detainee.

However, identity of three victims could not be known immediately. Banglanews24.com
