President approves ICT amendment

President Mohammad Zillur Rahman has approved the International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Act 2013 that will now allow trials of parties or organisations alongside individuals on war crimes charges.

“As per law, the Act will come into action once a gazette is issued as the President has signed it,” Senior Assistant Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Nazmul Haque told bdnews24.com.

The amendment also allows equal opportunity of appeal to both prosecution and defence against verdicts of the war crimes tribunals.

The amendment was approved last Monday by the Bangladesh cabinet and then placed in Parliament.

It was approved with a voice vote in Parliament on Sunday.bdnews24.com
