Workers of a garment factory went on berserk following the killing of one of their female colleagues in a road accident at Tayebpur in Ashulia on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Shahida Begum, 55, worker of Radiant Garments at Jirabo in Ashulia.
Police said Shahida died on the spot at about 8am as a cargo truck hit her while she was crossing the road.
Locals later seized the truck, but its driver managed to flee the scene. Angered at the accident, workers of Radiant Garments vandalized the windows and furniture at the factory.
The factory authorities declared the factory closed for the day following the vandalism.
Later, the workers blocked Abdullahpur-Bypile road for an hour protesting the road accident. Additional law enforcers have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble. UNB
