Sayedee son, 3 others detained

Police detained a son of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, who is facing war crimes charges, from the capital’s Uttara Model Town on Monday.

Shamim Hossain Sayedee was detained for questioning along with three others from near a shop in Uttara Sector-4, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

It was not immediately clear if there were any charges against him and the three other detainees.

The police official said the three— Mosharraf Hossain, Abdur Rashid and Habibur Rahman— were with Shamim in a car when he was detained.

Mosharraf is a teacher at a cadet madrasa in the capital. Rashid runs Colombia Tour and Travel Agency, and Habib is a teacher with private Santa Mariam University.

Delwar Hossain Sayedee is currently standing trial for his role in the 1971 independence war. A tribunal dealing with the case may announce the verdict anytime now.

A detective police officer, who preferred anonymity, said the detainees had been taken to the DB office at the Minto Road. “We are probing whether they are associated with Jamaat’s violence during the Islamist party-enforced recent shutdown,” he added. Bdnews24.com
