Dhaka, Feb 04 – A Dhaka court on Wednesday asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a report on 3 March, after investigating a sedition case filed against Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh chief Junaid Babunagari in connection with his anti-sculpture comments. Magistrate Sattyabrata Shikdar of the CMM Court of Dhaka fixed the fresh date as the PBI could not submit the probe report on Wednesday. President of Muktijuddho Mancha Aminul Islam filed the case on 7 December, last year.
According to the case statement, Hefazat chief Junaid Babunagari threatened to tear down all the statues in the country while addressing an event in Chittagong’s Hathazari on 27 November.
On 13 November, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Nayeb-e-Ameer Faizul Karim and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque opposed the setting up of Bangbandhu’s sculptures.
Earlier, the High Court Division asked the authorities concerned to take measures to ensure the security of all sculptures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the country.
