Share prices down, turnover record low

Share prices at the country’s both bourses—Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) –- witnessed substantial fall as the turnover plunged to record low on Wednesday.

The DSE benchmark index, DGEN lost 69.22 points or 1.81 percent to close at 3749.07 at the end of the day’s trading.

Of the issues traded at the DSE on the day, 31 gained, 215 declined and 18 remained unchanged.

The premier bourse’s turnover showed the record low of Tk 141.82 crore on Wednesday.

IDLC Finance in their daily analysis said: “Market observed freefall Wednesday amid vanishing investor confidence. DSEX and DGEN hit new low, while turnover trailed back to Tk 1400 million level. Panic spread fast as DGEN broke psychological level of Tk 3800, forming up a selling spree that accelerated today’s plunge.”

Meanwhile, the CSE key index, CSCX, also lost 180.33 points to close at 7200.47 at the end of trading Wednesday. Of the issues traded at the CSE, 10 gained, 153 suffered loss and 3 remained unchanged.
