T-Aman cultivated on 1,26,000 hectares in Gaibandha

Gaibandha, Aug 9: Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken up a plan to bring a total of 1, 26,000 hectares of land under T-Aman paddy this year with the production target of 3, 57,200 tonnes of rice.Of them, some 80,000 hectares of land would be cultivated HYV (high yield variety), 31000 hybrid and 15,000 hectares LV (local variety), sources said.
Earlier, to make the farming programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation and its approved dealers distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers of the district at fair prices.
To bring the land under the farming of T-Aman paddy the farmers of the district have already prepared seedbed on 6,785 hectares of land where the seedlings have grown well, sources said.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank have taken initiatives to disburse agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them cultivate the T-Aman paddy on their land without economical hardship, said a bank official.
In addition, DAE has been conducting training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management, judicious use of fertilizer and preservation of quality seed, said district training officer of DAE Rahela Parvin.
Deputy Director of DAE krishibid Masudur Rahman said necessary measures had been taken for availability of fertilizers, insecticides and other agriculture inputs for the farmers at the grass root level of the district during the current Aman season.
The T-Aman farming would start in the district just after removing the floodwater from the land, he concluded.
