State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam on Tuesday said it had become inevitable to take legal actions against top BNP leaders as they made an attempt to make the state dysfunctional.“They (BNP leaders) conspired to make the state fully dysfunctional. The BNP leaders have been arrested as they’re moving ahead with that blueprint,” he said.
Quamrul made the remarks while addressing a human-chain programme organised by Sammilito Awami Samarthak Jote in front of the party office at the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
They arranged the programme in protest against the ongoing 36-hour hartal enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Alleging that a plot is on to create a 1/11-like situation in the country, the AL leader urged the main opposition BNP to shun the path of unlawful and terrorist activities.
Quamrul said, “It’s unnecessary in the eye of law to consider the political identities of the accused; it’s rather important to consider the degree of crimes.”
The state minister claimed that the people of the country are getting united against anarchy, terrorism and conspiracies of BNP.
Issuing a note of warning, Quamrul said, “If terrorist activities take place in Bangladesh further, they (BNP leaders) will be charged with instigating violence.”
Chaired by Jote convener Abdul Haque Sabuj, the programme was addressed, among others, by AL central committee member Sujit Ray Nandi, AL Dhaka city unit senior vice president Foyez Uddin Miah, its joint secretary Hazi Mohammad Selim. UNB
