ULAB student rape and murder, report placing deferred again

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka Tuesday deferred the submission of the probe report in the case filed over rape and subsequent murder of a student of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) to April 11. The Investigation Officer of the case, Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Sajedul Haque could not submit the report on the day. Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy of the CMM Court passed the order fixing the new date on Tuesday.
On January 31, the victim’s father filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station accusing four people.
Besides, another unnamed man was made accused in the case. The court fixed February 15 for submission of the probe report. Later, the date for submission of the report was deferred thrice.
The victim’s friends Mortuza Raihan Chowdhury, Nuhat Alam Tafsir, Safayet Zamil and the victim’s girlfriend Farzana Zaman Neha have been put behind the bar after their arrest. Of the accused Mortuza Raihan Chowdhury made a confession in a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to the case docket, on January 28 evening Mortuza Raihan took the victim to accused Arafat’s residence from Mirpur of the city. Then Raihan took the young victim to Bamboo-suit Restaurant of Uttara Sector 3, where another accused Neha and one of their class-friends were present. There the accused compelled the victim to drink excessive alcohol with her drink.
The First Information Report (FIR) of the case adds that at one stage, the victim fell sick and Raihan took her to their friend Tafsir’s residence and took her in a separate room, where Raihan raped her. His other friends were present there.
Later, the girl became more sick and vomited there. Then Raihan telephoned his another friend Ashim Khan, who went there on the following morning and took the victim to IBN Sinha Hospital and later to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital. The victim was, there, on-life support for two days and died.
