US 7th fleet Commander Scott H Swift in city

US Vice Admiral Scott H Swift, Commander of the US Seventh Fleet, arrived here on Saturday on a three-day visit to discuss a range of maritime issues.While in Bangladesh, Vice Admiral Swift will be meeting Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib and other Bangladesh military and government officials to discuss the mutual issues, said a press release.
The Seventh Fleet’s area of responsibility includes over 124 million square kilometers and extends from the Kuril Islands in the north to the Antarctic in the south, and from the International Date Line to the 68th meridian east, which runs down from the India-Pakistan border.
At any given time, there are 60-100 ships, 200-300 aircraft and 40,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel assigned to the Seventh Fleet.
Vice Admiral Swift previously held the position of Director of Operations of US Pacific Command in Hawaii.
Vice Admiral Swift has been recognised as the Commander, Naval Air Forces, US Pacific Fleet Landing Signal Officer of the Year, presented the Commander Michael G Hoff Award as the US Pacific Fleet Attack Aviator of the Year, and is entitled to wear the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Combat V, along with various other personal, unit and service awards.UNB
