Vote us for continuous development work: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought the mandate of the people at Sirajganj, saying Awami League will carry forward development it has already set out to.

“Vote us again and we’ll give you a beautiful self-reliant Bangladesh within 2021,” she said while addressing a road rally at Sirajganj on Saturday.

Hasina inaugurated a Tk 8 billion 150MW power plant at Saydabad in Sirajganj. She laid the foundation stones for upgradation of another 150MW gas turbine power plant and a 225MW combined cycle power plant in Sirajganj.

She opened the 347.29-metre Khan Sonatola Bridge on the Korotoa River in Ullapara upazila. The bridge’s construction has cost Tk 440 million, according to official estimates.

The Prime Minister said the spirit of the War of Independence has been established in the country over the past four years.

Hasina said Bangladesh has achieved self sufficiency in the food sector thanks to her government’s landmark decisions to develop the country’s agriculture.

She said the coalition government was working tirelessly to ensure Bangladesh utilised modern technology to seek its rightful place in the world.

The helicopter carrying the Prime Minister reached the north-western district around 10am. This was her second visit to the district in her current term. The last time she visited the district was on Apr 9, 2010.

The Prime Minister left for Pabna from Sirajganj. In her first visit to Pabna in 15 years, Hasina is expected to inaugurate several development projects including a 500-bed Pabna Medical College and a permanent campus of the Pabna Science and Technology University, new rail tracks and 542MW Beral power plant.

She is expected to address a public rally on the Pabna Edward College premises in the afternoon.bdnews24.com
