Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 15 birds, including three blue gold macaws, at Malanchi on the Benapole-Jessore road on Monday.Lieutenant Colonel Matiur Rahman, commanding officer of the 26th BGB Battalion, said on secret information that some smugglers along with some birds in a bid to smuggle those to India were going to Benapole from Dhaka by a bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’, a BGB team intercepted the bus in the area when the smugglers fled away leaving behind the birds early Monday.
The team then recovered 15 birds, including 12 parrots and three blue gold macaws, from the bus.
Later, the seized birds were handed over to the local forest department on Monday afternoon.
