Dhaka – The flood situation in northern and northestern districts has deteriorated due to incessant heavy rain and onrush of water from the bordering Assam and Meghalaya hills submerging many areas of north-eastern parts of the country.The sudden rise of water in different points of the rivers due to heavy rain has inundated many villages of Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Lalmonirhat district on Monday.
Besides, the incessant heavy has caused water logging in Chittagong city and its low lying areas while there is apprehension of landslide in Rangamati due to incessant rain.
The river water at Dalia point of Lalmonirhat district was flowing 8cm above the danger level in Teesta River due to onrush of water from upper riparian region.
This rise of water has inundated at least 13 villages in four upazilas including Hatibandha adjacent to the river. At least 1500 families of these families have been marooned and many people have been removed to safer places.
Water Development Board at Dalia said all gates of the Teesta Barrage have been opened to tackle the flood situation.

In Moulvibazar, at least three lakh people have been marooned due to incessant heavy rain and onrush of hill water.
The Kushiara river water has decreased to some extent but the flood situation remained unchanged. The water in the Kushiara yesterday was still flowing above the danger level by 23 cm which was 24 on Sunday.
The flood has shattered the road communication of 20 Unions of Kulaura, Juri and Baralekha upazilas. The communication with the Sadar Upazila with these Upazilas has been severed. The Kulaura-Baralekha road has gone under water and vehicles are plying with risk.
Authorities have shutdown 142 primary schools and 41 secondary schools hampering the education.
The local representatives said the government is distributing relief materials but not sufficient. At least two lakh people of 150 villages of Kulaura, Juri and Baralekha upazilas have been marooned. – Staff Reoporter
